The station at Trowse was the forerunner of Norwich Thorpe Station, acting as terminus of the Ipswich-Norwich line whilst the swing bridge over the River Yare was constructed.

For many years it was used for the unloading of livestock that was to be herded up to Bracondale to the Cattle Market near to Norwich Castle.

Trowse station had another short lease of life in the 1980's whislt electrification of the line was caried out when the railway line was electrified. The upgrading of the swing bridge was probelmatic, so this little station was refurbished and used as a temporary terminus until the power lines into Norwich Thorpe station were complete.
